Scope and Content Wellington Suspension Bridge, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire This is a very important early suspension bridge, designed by John Smith (masonry) and Captain Samuel Brown (ironwork). The deck was strengthened and the original wrought-iron suspension rods were replaced in steel in 1930. This view shows the bridge from the south, with its massive pylons built mainly of rock-faced ashlar. The suspension chains are of Samuel Brown's patent flat-link type. When this photograph was taken the bridge was still in restricted vehicular use. It has since been bypassed, but is still used as a footbridge. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
