Scope and Content Gourdon Harbour, Kincardineshire This harbour was rebuilt c1880, during the herring fishing boom. It is formed by north and south breakwaters, and a central pier. Gates between the end of the central pier and the south breakwater allow the southern basin to be protected in easterly gales This view shows the southern basin, with the central pier on the left. The works are mainly constructed of sandstone ashlar, but the breakwaters are partly constructed of concrete. The harbour was the base for a fairly large inshore fishing fleet in the 1970s, of which the vessels shown are typical. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
