Description Johnshaven, Harbour View of inner (S) basin, from SW

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 444635

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Johnshaven Harbour, Kincardineshire This harbour was rebuilt in 1884, during the herring-fishing boom. Unlike most harbour works of the period it is constructed of sandstone ashlar, and consists of a rectangular basin entered from the side of an entrance stilling basin. This view shows the inner basin from the south, with the entrance from the outer basin at the end. The small craft in the harbour are typical of the vessels using the harbour. This harbour was only being used by small inshore fishing vessels and creel boats by the mid 1970s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
