SC 444569

Description Scurdie Ness, East Beacon View of landward side from S

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 444569

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Beacon, Scurdie Ness, Angus This is one of a pair of beacons - unlit sea marks - at the entrance to Montrose Harbour and no doubt indicating a preferred channel. This view shows the taller of the two beacons, built of massive rubble, with a dressed stone cap. The structure was lime-washed for visibility. Day marks are still important navigational aids, though few are as accessible as these. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
