Scope and Content Inchbrayock Viaduct, Montrose, Angus This viaduct was built by the North British Railway after the opening of the first Tay Bridge to give a direct route to Aberdeen. It was designed by Sir Thomas Bouch, but because it was a conventional brick structure did not require to be rebuilt. This view shows the viaduct from the south east. There are 17 arches in this single-track structure. Running rights over the Caledonian Railway from Kinnaber Junction, immediately north of Montrose, allowed the North British Railway access to Aberdeen. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
