Scope and Content St Margaret's Works, Dunfermline, Fife Dunfermline was the centre of Scotland's fine linen trade, and St Margaret's Works one of its largest factories. With the decline in demand for fine linen products in the inter-war period it was adapted for silk weaving. This view shows the octagonal-section red and white brick chimney, probably of c1870, when it appears that the works began to assume its present form. This works is still weaving synthetic fibres.
