Scope and Content Suspension bridge, Crathie This bridge was built as a road bridge by J Justice Junior & Co, Dundee, with flat-link suspension chains and iron-rod diagonal braces. There are light iron railings. The bridge was 'renewed' in c1885 by Blaikie Brothers, Aberdeen. This view shows the bridge deck. The extent of the 1880s 'renewal' is difficult to discern. The timber deck is typical of early suspension bridges. The firm of which J Justice Junior was principal pioneered suspension bridge construction in eastern Scotland. Two other examples of their work survive, in Glenisla, Angus, and at Haughs of Drimmie on an estate near Blairgowrie, Perthshire. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
