Scope and Content Cambus o'May Halt, Aberdeenshire This halt was built on the Aboyne-Ballater line, which was opened in 1866, and closed when the Deeside line closed in 1966. It was built primarily for the use of salmon fishers, and a suspension bridge was later constructed over the Dee. This view shows the halt from the east The vertically-boarded construction was typical of the period, but the canted end is an unusually refined touch, to appeal to its moneyed customers. This was one of a number of unstaffed stations on the railways of northern Scotland, some of which were provided primarily for sporting purposes. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
