SC 443640

Description Aboyne, Bridge View from downstream N bank

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 443640

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Reinforced concrete bridge over the river Dee, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire This is a reinforced-concrete bridge with a single long, flat central span and small segmental accommodation arches at either end. This view shows the bridge from the north east. The slenderness of the arch made possible by reinforced-concrete construction is evident. This bridge dates from the inter-war period, when many experimental designs for reinforced-concrete bridges were produced. The New Spey Bridge at Grantown-on-Spey is similar in profile.
