SC 440677

Description Covesea Skerries Lighthouse View from NNW showing Keeper's houses

Date 19/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 440677

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Covesea Skerries Lighthouse, Morayshire This lighthouse was designed by Alan Stevenson, and consists of a tall tapering circular-section tower with a plain-railed gallery supported on a corbel course with pointed-arch openings. The keepers' houses have Egyptian detailing. This view shows the block of lighthouse-keepers' houses. The modelling of the Egyptian façade is not as powerful as that at Cromarty and Chanonry. Since 1974 the lighthouse has been automated, and the houses are now used as holiday accommodation. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
