Scope and Content Ice house, Hopeman, Morayshire This ice house is unique in having an Egyptian-style façade, but is otherwise a normal vaulted chamber for the storage of locally gathered or imported ice to be used for the preservation of salmon during shipment to the London market. This view shows the icehouse from the north. The treatment of the Egyptian detailing suggests that the designer may have been Alan Stevenson, who used the same motif in his lighthouse-keepers' houses, as nearby at Covesea Skerries. Hopeman was a model village, and this ice house was probably a designed feature of it. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
