SC 440648

Description Forres, Plasmon Oat Mill General view from NW

Date 19/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 440648

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Plasmon Mill, Forres, Morayshire This mill complex has an early origin but has been much rebuilt in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was still in production in 1974 under the ownership of Plasmon Ltd, making oatmeal and oat flour. This view shows the mill complex from the north west, with the much-altered main range to the rear, and a granary on the left. This was one of the last mills in north-east Scotland to process oats, at one time a staple food in the area. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
