Scope and Content Mortlach Distillery, Dufftown, Banffshire This Scotch malt whisky distillery was founded by George Gordon and James Findlater. It was enlarged in 1897 and rebuilt by Scottish Malt Distillers in 1963-4. This view shows one of the two blocks of maltings, across the road from the rest of the distillery. This range was probably added during the 1897 enlargement. It was closed in 1968 when Scottish Malt Distillers moved to centralised malting. This is an unusual distillery operating a complicated distilling process. The arch seen in this view has been removed to improve access and the office has been rendered since this photograph was taken. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
