Scope and Content Knockando Woollen Mill, Morayshire This small rural woollen mill was started as a water-powered carding mill, making carded wool for spinning by hand. To this was added a spinning mule, to produce yarn for hand-loom weaving. Finally two power looms were installed to make cloth. This view shows the mill from above. The original carding mill is in the angle between the two wings, with the mule in the wing on the right. The loom shop is the low wing in front of the carding mill. This mill was still weaving tweeds and blankets when this photograph was taken. Though carding and spinning had ceased, the equipment was still in place, as was the skeleton of the water wheel, superseded by electric drive. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
