Description Castle Grant, Railway Bridge and East Lodge View from S, East Lodge in right foreground

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 440443

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Railway bridge, lodge and estate gateway, Castle Grant, Morayshire This linked group of structures was built by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway, in a baronial style to suit the aspirations of the landowner. This view shows the bridge on the left, linked by a curved wing wall to the lodge and gateway. There was a private station platform behind the lodge. Though extra ornamentation was not infrequently introduced into railway structures to suit the requirements of landowners, this is the most elaborate installation of its kind in Scotland.
