Inverness, Harbour Quayside view from S along rail link, wagon in right foreground

Description Inverness, Harbour Quayside view from S along rail link, wagon in right foreground

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 440427

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Inverness Harbour, Inverness-shire This is a river-mouth harbour, consisting of quays along the east bank of the river Ness. There is a loose stone training wall to keep the main current of the river away from the quays. This view shows the harbour quay with a coastal tanker at the oil berth. Note that the harbour branch railway is still in use, rare for the mid 1970s. Inverness Harbour has continued to develop since the 1970s, and is now capable of taking larger ships than these.
