Littleferry, Storehouse General view from NW

SC 440369

Description Littleferry, Storehouse General view from NW

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 440369

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Rent house, Littleferry Pier, Sutherland This building appears to have been built for the storage of rents paid in grain, and awaiting shipment to market. It is smaller than the rent houses further south, but the arable land here is smaller in extent and poorer In quality. This view shows the building from the south west. The corrugated iron roof is a 20th century modification. Note the massive construction of the walls, which suggests a pre-nineteenth century date. The identification of this building as a rent house is not certain, but it seems very likely that this was the original use of the structure. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
