Scope and Content Remains of Castlehill Pavement Works, Caithness This was the largest of the Caithness pavement works, founded c1830 by James Traill of Ratter. The remains of the quarries, workshops and workers' houses cover a large area. This view shows the stump of a drainage windmill, one of two built to drain the flagstone quarries. The corbel-arched doorway is an unusual feature of this beautifully built drystone structure. The windmill is now part of a visitor experience created from some of the remains of the works.
