Catalogue Number SC 435848

Scope and Content Gryfe Viaduct, Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire This viaduct was on the Greenock & Ayrshire Railway, a line from Elderslie to Greenock (Prince's Pier), promoted by the Glasgow & South Western Railway to develop its steamer trade on the Clyde estuary. This view shows the five sharply-skewed masonry spans of the viaduct, from the south west. Out of sight on the right is a wrought-iron plate girder span over a minor road. Since the closure of this line part of the route, including this viaduct, has become a cycleway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
