Duncansby Head Lighthouse General view

SC 435498

Description Duncansby Head Lighthouse General view

Date 15/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 435498

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Duncansby Head Lighthouse, Caithness This lighthouse was designed by DA Stevenson, and was one of two inter-war lighthouses, the other being Esha Ness in Shetland. Both have square-section towers. This view shows the small size and simplicity of the tower, with a tiny lantern. The castellated parapet is a link with early 19th century lighthouses in the Firth of Forth. This lighthouse, like all other Northern Lighthouse Board lighthouses, has been automated.
