Scope and Content Former Clynelish Distillery (now Brora), Brora, Sutherland This distillery was founded by the Sutherland Estate as part of the agricultural improvement of the estate. It was a quadrangular complex. The distillery was rebuilt and extended in 1896 by Ainslie & Co. A new Clynelish was built in 1967-8. This view shows the distillery from the north west, with the stillhouse to the left of the malt kiln. The building in the left foreground is a warehouse. Brora closed in 1983, and its equipment has been removed. The warehouses and some other parts of the complex are used in connection with the new Clynelish. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
