Date 1974

Scope and Content Golspie Mill, Sutherland This is an estate mill built at an early stage in the agricultural improvement of the Sutherland estates. It was last used c1935. The waterwheel was overshot, 1.72m wide and 3.86m in diameter, and drove four pairs of stones and a pot-barley mill. This view shows the waterwheel, complete except for its buckets. It was made by James Abernethy of the Ferryhill Foundry, Aberdeen, probably in the late 19th century. The end of the wooden launder can be seen on the right. Since this photograph was taken the mill has been put back into working order. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
