Scope and Content Rogart Station, Sutherland This station was opened in 1868 by the Sutherland Railway, promoted by the Duke of Sutherland to assist in the development of his estates. Due economy was observed in station provision, en route to Golspie. This view shows the buildings on the south-bound platform, which incorporate the agent's house. It has been suggested that the station was converted from a cottage, but it was built for the purpose. Rogart is only a hamlet, and the country round is very sparsely populated, so the station is adequate. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
