Scope and Content Fearn Station, Ross and Cromarty This was one of five similar stations on the Ross-shire Extension Railway, opened in 1864. All were in Italianate style, with low-pitched open-eaved roofs, unglazed flat-roofed awnings on the platform side, and two-storey central sections. This view shows the station building, on the south-bound platform, from the platform side. Note that in this station there are no end pavilions, as at Meikle Ferry and Bonar Bridge (Ardgay) stations. There were two at Kildary and one at Alness. By the time this photograph was taken (in 1974), Alness and Kildary were both disused and boarded up. Alness has since been demolished, and Kildary has been converted into a house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
