Scope and Content Alness Station, Ross and Cromarty This was one of five similar stations on the Ross-shire Extension Railway, opened in 1864. All were in Italianate style, with low-pitched open-eaved roofs, unglazed flat-roofed awnings on the platform side, and two-storey central sections. This view shows the station building, on the north-bound platform, from the platform side, looking west. By the time this photograph was taken Alness and Kildary were both disused and boarded up. Alness has been demolished, and Kildary has been converted into a house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
