Scope and Content Nigg Platform Construction Yard, Ross and Cromarty The Nigg Platform Construction Yard was established by Highland Fabricators Ltd to make platform jackets for the then-new North Sea oil industry. A large dry-dock was excavated in which these very large structures could be built. This view shows 'Highland One', the first jacket built at Nigg, nearing completion. The yard is still (1999) in operation, but the demand for jackets of this type has ended, and the components produced here are now much smaller. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
