Cantray Mill View from W

SC 434940

Description Cantray Mill View from W

Date 5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 434940

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Cantray Mill, Nairnshire This is a rectangular two-storey water-powered corn mill, with a piend-roofed kiln at one end. It was driven by a low-breast shrouded-paddle wheel 1.35m wide by 4.57m diameter. There was a second wheel parallel to the first, perhaps for a sawmill. This view shows the mill from the north west, with the lade on the left. The small louvred kiln ventilator is unusual. The machinery had been removed from the mill and the water system was being used for a fish farm. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
