Scope and Content Blair Atholl Mill, Blair Atholl, Perthshire This mill was built as the Atholl estate mill in the Ducal village. It is constructed of locally extracted schist, and is in an L-plan. The kiln is lower than the main range. There is a mid-breast shrouded-paddle wheel 1.37m wide by 4.27m in diameter. This view shows the mill from the north west, with the kiln on the left. Note that the ventilator is formed by tilting a few courses of slates in the centre of the roof. The mill was out of use when this photograph was taken, but was restored to working order c1980 and adapted as a visitor attraction. This involved putting a staircase in the kiln and renewing much of the woodwork. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
