Scope and Content Glenpatrick Carpet Works, Elderslie, Renfrewshire This works was founded as a paper mill in 1815, and converted into a carpet works in about 1860. The carpets made here by Stoddarts earned a world reputation for quality. This view shows the entrance to the works, with the three-storey offices on the left. The workshops were in single-storey sheds to the rear. Carpet weaving was an important west of Scotland industry until cheap, if less durable, alternatives came on the market in the 1960s and 70s.
