Scope and Content Glasgow Underground workshops, Broomloan Road, Glasgow The Glasgow Underground railway was opened as the Glasgow District Subway in 1896. It was originally cable worked, but was electrified in 1934 by Glasgow Corporation. These workshops dated from the opening of the line. This view shows the blacksmith's hearth and anvil used for minor iron and steel repairs. The system was completely modernised in the mid 1970s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
