Scope and Content Biggar Gas Works, Biggar, Lanarkshire Biggar Gas Works was one of many small gas works in Scotland making gas by dry distillation of coal. It was one of the last of its kind to operate in central Scotland. This view shows the smaller of the two gasholders, empty, after the works had closed. This works has been preserved and is now in the care of Historic Scotland. It is open during the summer months in association with the National Museums of Scotland and the Biggar Museum Trust.
