Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number BW 2663 PO

Category Photographs and Off-line Digital Images

Copies SC 433569

Scope and Content Cove Harbour, Berwickshire This is the oldest harbour surviving in Berwickshire. It was built for the grain trade, and to serve a small coal mine, as well as for fishing. There are underground cellars associated with it which may have been used for smuggled goods. This view shows the north pier, with its angled head, and the cottages at its landward end. It is rare in Scotland to have cottages on a pier. The scale of the harbour works here is very impressive. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
