Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 432578

Copy of BW 2414 PO

Scope and Content Chirnside Paper Mill, Chirnside, Berwickshire This was the only large paper mill in Berwickshire, an outpost of the paper industry of the Lothians. The historic frontage was retained when the main production ranges were modernised in the mid 20th century. This view shows the main front ranges of offices and warehouses. The Tudor detailing of the gables suggests that these probably date from the foundation of the mill. In the foreground is the track of the railway from Reston to Duns. When this photograph was taken the mill was American owned and was making special paper for manufacturing tea bags. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
