Duns, Station Road, Granary View of frontage

SC 432013

Description Duns, Station Road, Granary View of frontage

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 432013

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Duns Station, Duns, Berwickshire The Duns branch of the North British Railway opened in 1849, and the station became a through one in 1853 with the opening of the Berwickshire Railway. The buildings of the passenger station were probably rebuilt in the 1880s or 1890s. This view shows the granary, a three storey seven-bay rubble building, originally provided as part of the station facilities, as grain traffic was a staple of the trade of the area. Duns was the county town of Berwickshire and an important railhead for a prosperous farming area, hence the scale of the buildings here. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
