Scope and Content Old Drip Bridge, near Stirling, Stirlingshire This a handsome, symmetrical five-span masonry bridge, with the spans increasing in size towards the centre. The cutwaters are triangular, as was then common, but the refuges are semihexagonal, giving a more elegant appearance to the bridge. This view shows the bridge from the south west. The spans are longer in relation to the width of the piers than would have been usual in the 17th century or earlier. The open-spandrel concrete bridge to the rear supplanted this one. This bridge spans the river Forth, at this point a relatively modest stream. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
