Scope and Content Part of Wilton Mills, Hawick, Roxburghshire Wilton Mills was one of the largest and oldest of the Hawick textile mills. By the time this photograph was taken textile production had ceased, and the buildings were in multiple occupation. This five-storey and attic L-plan block was probably the oldest part of the complex. Latterly it was used a wool store, and the hoist with associated doors on the left-hand side of the building was probably installed for that function. Wilton Mills was originally water-powered, and this block was probably built as a spinning mill producing yarn for the local framework knitting industry. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
