Hawick, Weensland Road, Weensland Mill View of complex from S

SC 429641

Description Hawick, Weensland Road, Weensland Mill View of complex from S

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 429641

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Part of Weensland Mills, Hawick, Roxburghshire This is an extensive complex of buildings of various dates, incorporating Teviot Mills. The mills produced tweed. This view shows the main range, with what appears to have been the earliest part of the complex on the left. This is the end of an elongated U-plan block. The four-storey ashlar-fronted block with the bellcote is later. Though less striking, the single-storey blocks in the foreground are also of interest, with their long roof pitches. The multi-storey mill buildings attract most attention, but the single storey buildings are just as much a part of the mill complex. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
