Scope and Content Canongate Bridge, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire Canongate Bridge is a relatively modest but substantially unaltered example of a 16th century bridge, a rare survival in the Borders. This is an oblique view of this three-span structure, with its almost semicircular ribbed arches. The four ribs to each arch are clearly visible, as are the triangular cutwaters carried up to form refuges, a characteristic feature of the period. Ribbed arches are comparatively rare in Scotland, and this is one of the finest bridges with this feature. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
