Jedburgh, Abbey Bridge View of bridge from SW

SC 429292

Description Jedburgh, Abbey Bridge View of bridge from SW

Date 10/4/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 429292

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Abbey Bridge, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire This bridge is on an old site, but appears to have been rebuilt in the mid 20th century, contrary to the view taken in the reference given below. This view shows the slender piers and very flat masonry treatment that strongly suggest that this is a concrete bridge with a cosmetic masonry facing. This bridge is close to Jedburgh Abbey, the best-preserved of the medieval Border abbeys. The masonry facing would have been intended to respect this historic setting.
