Scope and Content View of Dunderave Castle from the north-west, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. The original tower-house has a conical-roofed circular tower projecting from its west angle which rises the full height of the building. To the right is an angle-turret carried on four courses of continuous corbelling projecting from the wall. Sir Robert Lorimer (1864-1929), architect, added the one-and-a-half storey ranges, to the left and right, which he designed to harmonise with the tower. He used the same local rubble masonry for the new buildings as was used for the tower. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
