Lower North Water Bridge View from SSE

SC 428765

Description Lower North Water Bridge View from SSE

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 428765

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content North Water Bridge, Fisherhills, Angus This bridge, one of the finest in Scotland of any period, was designed by John Adam, John Smeaton and Andrew Barrie. It has seven arches increasing in span to the centre, all segmental, with triangular cutwaters. This view from the south west shows the unusual length of the structure. Note the oculi (round holes) on either side of the central span. The only significant change to this viaduct since its construction has been the addition of railings to the parapeta in the interest of pedestrian safety. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
