SC 427723

Description Cargill, Bridge of Isla View of bridge

Date 9/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 427723

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Bridge of Isla, Cargill, Perthshire This is a very handsome, unaltered example of a late 18th-century large turnpike road bridge. This view shows the bridge from the south west. Note the rubble construction of the spandrels, and the ashlar arch rings and parapets. The slender piers and the graceful curve of the roadway are characteristic of the period. This bridge is still an important link in the route north from Perth to Blairgowrie and Braemar. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
