Scope and Content Cast-iron fingerpost, near Bemersyde, Roxburghshire This is a fine, complete example of a finger-post, of a type common before national standard road signs became all-but universal. This shows the cast iron post surmounted by a roundel with the legend 'Berwickshire CC', though the sign was in Roxburghshire. The cast 'fingers' were easy to repaint. Signs like this had to be regularly repainted, a factor which encouraged their replacement. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
