Scope and Content Footbridge on piers of Teviot (Roxburgh) Viaduct, Roxburgh, Roxburghshire This 14-arch masonry viaduct was designed by John Miller for the North British Railway's branch from St Boswells to Kelso. This footbridge was provided to cross the Teviot when the viaduct was constructed. This view shows how the river piers and their landward neighbours were extended downstream to carry the lens-shaped wrought-iron trusses of the footbridge. The quality of the construction of the masonry of the viaduct is evident. This is a viaduct of exceptional refinement, intended when it was built to be part of a major through route, a function it never fulfilled. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
