Description Newburgh, Parkhill Farm, Parkhill Mill View of millwheel from WSW

Date 9/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 427451

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content New Mill, Parkhill Farm, Newburgh, Fife This is an unusually large farm mill, the light sandstone dressings contrasting handsomely with the dark whinstone rubble of the body of the mill. Note that the area of the wall adjacent to the wheel is made of ashlar, to resist water penetration. This view shows the overshot wheel with its cast iron axle and rim, and wooden spokes and buckets, which drives two pairs of millstones. The mill was still in operating condition when this photograph was taken. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
