Scope and Content View from south showing main entrance front of Eallabus House, Islay, Argyll and Bute Eallabus House lies about 1km north of the village of Bridgend, overlooking Islay's Loch Indaal. It was built as a residence for the factor, or agent, of the Islay estate, during the 18th century, while Walter Campbell was laird of Islay House. The main house is three-storeyed and three-bayed, with the outer bays having two-storeyed bay windows. It is harled with dressed sandstone window surrounds, and the entrance porch is decorated with Tuscan pilasters. At the west (left) end is a later one-storeyed addition. Behind the house is a group of outbuildings which include a shed and byre. The house is still in use as a factor's residence today. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
