Scope and Content Drawing showing plan of Finlaggan Castle, Islay, Argyll and Bute Loch Finlaggan lies c.1.5km north-west of Ballygrant on Islay. The remains of a castle and associated buildings occupy two small islands at the north-east end of the loch: Eilean Mór, meaning 'great isle'; and Eilean na Comhairle, meaning 'council isle'. This plan shows the layout of the remains on the islands. Eilean na Comhairle (bottom left) bears the remains of what is thought to have been a meeting-place for the Council of the Isles, along with two jetties, and a causeway to Eilean Mór. Eilean Mór bears the traces of a large number of buildings, including the upstanding remains of a service range to the castle (C) and a chapel (Q). Building A formed the main hall of the castle, with building B another service range. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
