Scope and Content View of gardens and Foreland House, Islay, Argyll and Bute Foreland House stands c.3.5km north of Bruichladdich, overlooking Islay's Loch Indaal. The original core was built for Captain Walter Campbell in c.1820. A kitchen and service range (right) and another wing (left) were added in the mid-19th century. This shows the rear elevation of the house. The two-storeyed east wing is on the right with a later conservatory in front. On the left is the kitchen and service wing, which is separated from the main house by a small walled courtyard. On this elevation, the main house is five-bayed, with large sash and case windows on the ground floor. The polygonal (many-sided) conservatory provides an exit from the house to the garden, and into the billiard room in the east wing. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
