Scope and Content Old petrol pump, Tushielaw, Selkirkshire When road vehicles were less fuel-efficient and petrol tanks were smaller rural petrol stations were very numerous. This pump served a very scattered rural community. This view shows the simple construction of a petrol pump of the inter-war period. It originally had an illuminated glass globe on top, a fragment of which can be seen. This pump would have had an attendant. Note its setting within a roadside wall and the simple hand-painted sign.
