Description Forest Mill View from SSE

Date 7/4/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 426076

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Forest Mill, Station Road, Selkirk, Selkirkshire Forrest Mill started as a spinning mill, and developed into an integrated tweed mill. This view shows the 1868 block, which was used for power-loom weaving. Forrest Millis was originally the second large spinning mill in Selkirk but unlike Ettrick, the first, it remained in its original form. The 1868 addition was made when hand-loom weaving ceased to be an economic proposition. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
